CNetID Overview
KB06000393 •59160 Views • Updated 2-Aug-2024
All current UChicago faculty, registered students, and active staff members are eligible for account services, including a CNetID and password. You will use your CNetID to log in to your account services. Your CNetID gives you access to account services that include email, the wireless network, the virtual private network (cVPN), and two-factor authentication (2FA).
Tip: Be sure to choose an appropriate CNetID to share professionally because it is the prefix of your email address (e.g., sunnychump@uchicago.edu instead of thechump@uchicago.edu). Your CNetID cannot be changed once you create it. However, you may set up an email alias, which you might use, for example, if you change your name and your CNetID no longer represents your identity accurately.
When you choose your CNetID, please be sure to set a strong password or passphrase.
Note: It is against the Acceptable Use Policy to create email aliases associated with other UChicago community members without permission or an approved business purpose.
