Alumni Services

Students may keep their CNetIDs after they graduate or leave the University, and alumni who no longer have CNetIDs may claim new ones. Your CNetID and password will give you access to alumni services, including:

  1. Use a cnetid@uchicago.edu address. IT Services will forward all email that is sent to this address to whatever outside email account that you specify. This means that you will have the option of continuing to advertise your University email address, while actually reading mail via another provider.
  2. Use your CNetID and password to access myUChicago Portal. This will allow you to order transcripts electronically either by ordering them individually or using the transcript for life service. (New alumni are automatically enrolled in transcripts for life service.)
  3. Use your CNetID and password to access the University wireless network when you're on campus.

Using your CNetID for mailforwarding

Please note that the cnetid@uchicago.edu address is a forwarding address, and so you will need to have a destination mail account (such as a Yahoo! or AOL account) to which the mail will be delivered. You will not be able to access your cnetid@uchicago.edu email on the University systems or by logging into cMail or Webmail or by using a desktop email program, such as Thunderbird or Eudora, that has been set up to receive mail through the University once your account services have closed.

Your new forwarding address provides a permanent email address; as long as you redirect the mail to a current working email account, the address will work indefinitely. If you do not set up your email to forward to an outside email account, email that is sent to your University address will bounce once your account with IT Services closes.

Using your CNetID for myUChicago Portal Access

Students who enrolled in or after Fall 2006 are automatically set up with transcripts for life. You may go to the myUChicago Portal site and order your electronic transcripts whenever you have need of them. Alumni and former students who were enrolled earlier than Fall 2006 have not paid the lifetime transcript fee. If you would like to pay the fee and use the lifetime transcript service, you may do so from the myUChicago Portal site. Alternately, you may purchase individual transcripts on an as-needed basis from the myUChicago Portal website:

Using your CNetID for wireless access

When you are on campus or at the Gleacher Center, you may access the wireless network using your CNetID and password. To connect to the network using a Mac, make sure your Airport is turned on. When you see the list of wireless networks available, scroll through and select "uchicago." from that list. To connect to the wireless network using a Windows machine, go to Start, select Control Panels, choose Network Connections, select View wireless networks and select ?uchicago.? Next, for both Macs and Windows machines, open your web browser and type in a URL or network address (you may use http://www.uchicago.edu as a default if you wish). The wireless network will automatically connect you to the wireless login screen. Enter your CNetID and password to authenticate.
